Catalpa Cottage, Gloucestershire  

This detached 19th century Cotswold cottage comfortably accommodates five guests and is situated in the heart of the famous AONB in the quaint village of Tetbury. Here you are just 3 minutes from the centre of the bustling market town, and just a 20-minute drive from popular Cirencester. The Cotswolds are famous for their historic towns and villages, and from Tetbury, a number of them are within easy reach. Spend an autumn break experiencing all the Cotswolds have to offer and enjoy wandering cobbled streets, discovering local markets and exploring an assortment of independent shops.

Felltree Cottage, Gloucestershire

Broadwell is closer to the north of the Cotswold AONB, and not far from Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-Marsh. This charming little hideaway for two has a garden with a terrace and nice views. There is an inglenook fireplace to keep you cosy and a number of period features to really submerge you in the Cotswold history. The village is home to a much-loved pub which is walking distance from your cottage, so why not go for an evening amble?

Heather Cottage, Yorkshire

If the wild moors of Yorkshire are more appealing to you this autumn then look no further than Gillamoor, with its panoramic views of Douthwaite Dale. Heather Cottage is great for a small family or two couples after a walking holiday in the great outdoors. Both bedrooms have an en suite and there is a pretty little garden to enjoy. Just on the fringe of the North York Moors, you have access to exquisite walking country, with footpaths and bike trails galore. Long Meadow Barn, Devon

If it is converted barns you are interested in, Long Meadow might suit you better if you’re part of a larger party. Comfortably housing seven guests, this Devonshire property is located in the village of Down St. Mary, where it is only half an hour’s drive from Exeter, and an even shorter distance from Dartmoor National Park. The property is detached, spacious and bright, with a wood burning stove in the living room. Down St. Mary is crossed by The Two Moors Way and a number of other public footpaths. Fishing and golf are also both available locally.

Sea Holly, Kent

For a coastal getaway venture down to the south-east coast of Kent where Sea Holly cottage can be found in the coastal town of Hythe. Just a short distance from Folkestone, this stretch of coast is part of the Dover-Folkestone Heritage Coastline and very popular with sun-seekers and beach-lovers. This is a great one for a small family, with two bedrooms and a little landscaped terraced garden out back. Hythe is a bustling coastal market town that you’ll all enjoy exploring; shops, pubs and restaurants are all within walking distance.

Nos Da, Vale of Glamorgan

For something a little different, this contemporary cottage is a great one for two couples looking for a quiet getaway together. Nos Da (also pictured at the top) is a modern, open plan single-story building and its patio doors open right out on to your own private terrace and garden. Perfect for sitting out with a bottle of wine. And when the evening draws in, there’s a cosy wood burning stove inside. The area as a whole is very beautiful, with many valleys and lots of history to discover.

The Granary, Suffolk

In the grounds of a little farm in Suffolk, one of the 19th century buildings has been beautifully converted into a modern two-bedroom property. The Granary is modern and bright inside, and overlooks a little lake and the rolling farmland beyond. Where it is located in the small hamlet of Sibton Green, you have easy access to the famous Suffolk Coast and RSPB Minsmere Reserve. This one is a great one for wildlife-lovers.

Weathertop House, Cumbria

For those of you fancying a walking holiday, there’s no denying Cumbria is the perfect destination. From Weathertop House you are excellently located with the Lake District on one side and the Yorkshire Dales on the other. For scenery, for variety, there’s no better place. Ravenstonedale village is set in a wooded valley, surrounded by dramatic landscape. A lot of it is now a conservation area, so this is another good property for the nature-lovers among you. The house is open plan, spacious and bright, easily accommodating six adults. From the outdoor terrace or hot tub you can enjoy views of the garden and, beyond that, the lovely countryside. Within easy reach of many of the area’s attractions, market towns and footpaths, there won’t be time to relax around the log burner!

Glen Bank, Cumbria

On the edge of the Pennines AONB, Glen Bank is a large Cumbrian longhouse, finished with traditional touches and furnishings that reflect its 18th century origins. This is a good one for a gathering, comfortably accommodating 10 people and with a courtyard and gardens to enjoy. Nestled in a little village in the Eden valley the property is surrounded by views of the Pennine Ridge and the Cumbrian Fells. Still a comfortable distance from the Lake District, you are also just a short way from the likes of Penrith and Ullswater.
