Berkshire Holiday Cottages

Berkshire Holiday Cottages A county of the South East, Berkshire is an eclectic mix of bustling culture and picturesque countryside mixed with a royal past.

Visitors can experience the rural Berkshire downs and venture in to the urban local towns. Reading is a hub of activity from the annual rock festival to a number of popular sporting events, whilst picturesque Windsor offers plentiful shopping and eating, set against the dramatic backdrop of the royal Windsor castle.

With entertaining days out on the calendar all year round, you’ll be spoilt for choice; a host of experiences and activities are on offer throughout the county.Takethe annual Henley Royal Regatta for example; every first weekend of July a mixture of serious rowers, socialites and sun worshippers gather on the banks of the River Thames for five days of racing. It’s a truly spectacular event.

Whether you like to have a flutter or just the chance to get dressed up, Royal Ascot horse racing is one of the most notable days on the race calendar and what better way to enjoy the atmosphere than to take a break in a relaxing Berkshire holiday cottage after a long day on your feet.

If sightseeing is on the agenda, Windsor Castle and Highclere Castle are two of the area’s most recognisable attractions. Windsor Castle is in the heart of the historic town, still a working palace it has been the Royal Residence for over 900 years. It is recommended you take a guided tour of this famous castle during your stay.

Further south, close the Hampshire border near Newbury, Highclere Castle is recognisable mainly thanks to being the star of popular TV show Downton Abbey. Designed by Charles Barry, the same architect who constructed the Houses of Parliament, the present Earl and Countess open their doors to visitors in the spring and summer months.Booking is recommended and allow a whole day to explore the house and gardens, and enjoy the on-site tearooms.

For ample time to discover both these locations and the surrounding areas, we’d recommend a comfortable stay in a nearby holiday cottage, offering time to refresh and rejuvenate before the next day.

Berkshire may have a royal ambience, but rest assured you’ll feel right at home as you enjoy a picturesque walk through Windsor’s great park, a river cruise on the Thames or a wander around The Savill Garden, one of Britain's finest ornamental gardens.

Stop the press -there is something for the kids too! For added fun and excitement, take a trip to the famous Legoland Windsor, a popular attraction constructed mainly from 55 million Lego bricks! Legoland is a great day out for all of the family, so why not make it part of an enjoyable break in the heart of Berkshire.

Whatever you decide to do, you’re sure to find your stay an incredibly enjoyable one. Now you can choose a relaxing self-catering holiday cottage in Berkshire to act as your home for the stay and to relax in after a busy day out seeing the sights!
