First stay at Hawthorne. As usual, great accommodation and we appreciated the welcome hamper. Enjoyed the usual eating / drinking venues of The Vale (book to reserve a table for evenings), The Poachers and The Viceroy. Two great pubs if you walk along the canal - Ring O' Bells in Marple and Ye Olde Kings Head, on the outskirts of Macclesfield - great home-made pies! Not open for lunch early in the week. Both worth the walk. Thanks for everything, D, Cambridge

Excellent week. Can recommend walks from the book on Mam Tor and Kinder Scout.  Lovely, easy cycle from Buxton - Bakewell, on Monsal Trail - see leaflets. Windmill pub and Vale Inn are both good. Lyme Park House are also good, but glad we went early - got very busy by the afternoon. The cottage is an excellent base from which to explore the area. The book of walks seemed accurate, with its timings for length of walks, also flat walks along ridge to Shining Tor. Cycled from Blackwell Mill through trees and tunnels, which was relaxing and scenic. Bakewell touristy but pretty. The games room at the cottage was a massive hit. The house was clean and tidy and the welcome hamper, including scones, was wonderful Thank you. H

A spacious warm stay in the Peak District catching up with relatives and seeing our son at Manchester University. Gorgeous snowy walks and so many sheep - slept like logs. A & G, Winchester
