A return visit to Owl House after about a decade. Just as peaceful and idyllic as before. A great place to explore the wonderful places of mid Cornwall. A first visit to the Eden Project – fantastic – and a return to the charms of Lanhydrock. Great walk to Padstow. It will not be 10 years before we return.

Owl House offers beauty, simplicity, tranquillity and a chance to escape and unwind – all within reach of civilisation.

Wonderfully peaceful week and time to enjoy being outside. Our new find this year is a small café “Hut Behind the Hedge” – located in the carpark at the top of Rock just beyond the Chapel. Homemade cakes that are worth going for and a reward after long walk on the beach.

It’s years since we have been to Lanhydrock, but it is worth a visit. There are many more walk trails open – great for dogs and a very friendly visitor centre and café.

Charming cosy cottage, ideal location for exploring the Cornwall. Thank you for the delicious hamper, the wine was especially nice after long walks with our dog.

Lovely! Exactly what it said on the tin. Idyllic, remote, quiet and perfect for two. A brilliant week exploring around Wadebridge. Thank you Sarah for your texts and the hamper.

A wonderful place. We all enjoyed our stay at Owl House and loved Wadebridge and how close it was, while still being still far enough away for the cottage to feel private. We also visited Newquay which was lovely. I’m very sure we’ll be back perhaps next time without the baby. Cosy and perfect for us all.

5 January 2019

A beautiful place, so carefully thought out for visitors. Thank you very much.

22 December 2018

We had a blissfully quiet Christmas at Owl House after a hectic year – just the thing we both needed – before we go back to the hub-bub. The weather wasn’t great but we walked into Wadebridge a couple of times – highly recommend Baker Tom’s pasties. We went to Trevone Bay today and did a circular walk via Padstow along the coast – pasties not as good as Baker Tom’s but plenty of people out and the weather was mild and dry.

We’ll be sad to leave Owl House but had everything we needed – a lovely tree and fairly lights for Christmas. Wonderful.

Our fourth stay at Owl House. In the first week we saw and heard the owls. What can I say? It was perfect yet again. We are sure that we will return again next year. Thank you.

Overall a great time. Arrived just as it was getting dark. Owl House was warm and welcoming. Truly great hamper. The week has gone to quickly, we wished we'd booked two weeks even though it was raining today. We visited all the usual places.

It is not really possible to fault this "Shippen". On arrival the food basket was a welcome sight and the flowers an added personal touch. Everything works and is easy to use. There are plenty of extras for the evening - log fire, reading lamp, DVDs & board games. The heating is easily controllable and the rooms as warm as you need them. The various windows allow plenty of light into the space and a very good architect (or attentive owner) has carried out a very satisfying conversion. The bedroom was very quiet & cosy and the double-bed very comfortable. Whilst the adjoining gardens are somewhat small (to the front and space to the side (access from the kitchen)) they are secluded and one is not overlooked. The owner should be proud of what has been achieved.
Wadebridge is easily reachable by car, especially once one gets familiar with the narrow country lanes leading to the cottage.

We had a lovely time at the beaches and pubs. The Owl House is an extremely cosy place and feels like home. We are all very sad to leave but cant wait to come back.

Overall a great time. Arrived just as it was turning dark. Owl House was warm and welcoming. Truly great hamper. The week has gone so quickly. We wished we ‘d booked for two weeks, even though it was raining today. We visited all the usual places: Eden Project (expensive in comparison with other great places). In Wadebridge Baker Tom’s (near Coop) has lovely bread. Wonky Fudge next door delicious.

Lovely cottage in beautiful setting, very quiet and peaceful. We found this part of Cornwall great for visiting special plces, especially Port Issac, Fowey and Mevagissey. On a couple of the nights we lit the wood burner, really cosy. Thank you.

What a wonderful stay at Owl House. The best word to sum up the place is Charming. Its position is ideal for getting around the area both north and south of the Camel Estuary, a real haven to come back to and relax at the end of the day.

We have enjoyed our stay at Owl House, so secluded and comfortable. Very good quality hamper, much appreciated. We cycled the Camel Trail to Padstow in the morning and visited Porthcothan Bay on a glorious sunny afternoon. Despite the short period we crammed in so much. A big Thank You to the owner and Sarah.

Owl House is truly a Rural Retreat. Great to return to after a day mingling with all the other holiday maker - peace, tranquillity and bird song. Sadly no owls this week. This is our first stay in part of Cornwall - some super places to visit and the weather has been amazing. We loved the rocky coastline and the coastline and the coast path from Padstow along the estuary. Heligan well worth a visit and the woodland/riverside walk to St Nectans Glen, near Tintagel. The cottage was well prepared and we enjoyed the hamper very much.

Wow, ten days of unbroken sunshine. The heat let us have breakfast and dinner outside, a first for us. Which goes to show that 13 ( our number of stays) can be lucky. It is a lovely walk from Owl House down the hill towards St Breock and past the church .

We've used several RR properties and Owl House is very much up to standard. We loved the quiet area and the clean and comfortable cottage. Everything has been thought of. We did not use the television at all but sat by the fire with a glass of wine. The area is lovely. Thank you.

We loved Owl House. It is our first visit but it had everything we wanted: peace, seclusion, comfortable sofa and bed, well equipped. Even though we live in Cornwall, we love this spot. It has so much to offer - Treyarnon, Daymer, Constantine beaches, Wadebridge, the River Camel! We’ve swum in the sea and river and bathed in a truly glorious sunshine summer. We will be back.

Our first Rural Retreats break, and what a very pleasant time to have had at Owl House, one of many to come! After being in the holiday property bond for many years, we were unable to get a UK break as they were all booked for many months in the future. Then we found Rural Retreats. Yesterday we took a trip back to past memories by visiting the beaches at Newquay. The sea and sand seemed the same but unfortunately not the town! Constantine beach lovely. As previous comments in this book the welcome hamper was fantastic. The best we have ever experienced, thank you so much.

Our third visit here at Owl House. We love the peace and tranquillity. Nothing of interest is too far away. Looking forward to the Royal Cornwall Show and hoping the weather will change! Thanks to Sarah for the warm welcome. We will be back in 2018.

We’ve had a lovely Christmas break at Owl House. The live Christmas nativity was especially lovely, held at the very pretty church by the River Camel. Rich Stein’s fish is the best we have ever tasted so well worth a visit. Thank you to Sarah for all the Christmassy touches and the fantastic hamper. Very much appreciated.

We escaped!! Owl House has been the perfect retreat for us for a few days away from our busy normal lives.

Owl House provides peace and tranquillity but is close to many attractions.

We loved Rock (even went paddle boarding!) Padstow and Tintagel Castle also worth a visit. We went to Stein’s seafood restaurant which was a real treat.

Not a long enough stay and would be great to come back. Thank you to Sarah for keeping the cottage as nice as you do.

What a lovely place. We’ve had a wonderful time here at Owl House. The location is perfect for exploring all the lovely beaches.

The weather has been glorious for October and we’ve all had a lovely time.

We will be back.

PS: we did hear the owls!

Lovely stay at Owl House to celebrate a 70th birthday and enjoy the quiet after several family parties.
We were in Cornwall for my 60th with a meal at Rick Stein’s Seafood restaurant and did the same for my 70th. Not sure about the 80th with all the coastal path walks - some of which are challenging but you never know. Thank you Sarah for your help at the beginning of our stay.

We/’ve had a wonderful week at Owl House which has proved to be a relaxing and very tranquil location. The cottage has everything you need and is very comfortable. In terms of what we’ve enjoyed most about Cornwall, St Michael’s Mount and Lizard point were definitely highlights, also Crantock Beach and Padstow (a visit to Stein’s is a must!!). Very sad to be leaving today. Wish we’d booked for longer!

Honeymoon visit. Loved Owl House with its seclusion and quiet. Went of to St Ives, Padstow, Trerice Hosue and Lanhydrock. Bit of a nightmare returning at teatime, lanes congested both ways. However autumn weather has been kind to us and the log-burner has worked a treat in the evenings. House is well appointed all round. We would love to return at some point. So much to see – do, not nearly enough time. Didn’t hear the owls. Do visit St Breock Church.

20 August 2016

Lovely week again at Owl House and probably the best weather we have had in 12 years of visiting. Tide times have been against us though and the beaches have been much smaller at High Tide. Lower Halwyn car park is open again – another spot to park without charge. Do park at the top of Rock by the art gallery – will save you ages in the queue for the car park by the beach which is a bottle-neck.

Our first visit to Owl House and we found it a very relaxing and peaceful location. We have been to Newquay, lovely day at Tintern Abbey and Tintagel. Wadebridge is very close and convenient for supplies. We had lovely weather for our stay and will have to return as we didn’t hear the owls!

Another wonderful visit to Owl House! Very relaxing with lovely weather, good walks and some visits to excellent restaurants – Rick Stein’s Seafood, Natham Outlaw’s Kitchen and The Blue Tomato all highly recommended. Fabulous afternoon tea at The Hermitage, St Nectans Glen, Tintangel. Thank you Sarah for the wonderful welcome hamper and beautiful flowers.

Another relaxing holiday. This cottage is perfect. First time in 10 years we arrive RCS in 15 minutes. We are sure we will come back next year. Didn’t hear the owls this time, but a robin visited us every day looking for breadcrumbs. Thank you again to Sarah for the warm welcome.

A beautiful cottage! A very peaceful break. Walked to Wadebridge and then to Padstow on the Camel Trail - a great day out. Tandem to Bodmin, a lot of fun! Port Isaac, Bostcastle, Tintagel – all a very picture of Cornish life. Great parties. Whats not to like? If you get time, go to Lanhydrock. We'll be back!

What a lovely cosy cottage! Perfect and just what we needed for our little get away holiday. Had a lovely time exploring the local area, and enjoyed the fact that the cottage was only a short distance from Padstow. The welcome hamper was greatly appreciated after our long journey down. All-in-all, a wonderful stay we’ll definitely be coming back.

What a perfect location for our first Christmas together when we decided to take ourselves away from the usual stresses and Owl House didn’t disappoint.
Booked on a whim due to my obsession with owls - we think it was meant to be.
Despite unseasonably warm and wet weather, we’ve had a most idyllic time. The privacy and seclusion is perfect and the cottage is beautiful. A memorable and wonderful break – we’ll definitely be back.

First time at Owl House. This is a truly quiet and relaxing place to be. Very lucky with the weather – we ate breakfast outside every day! Love the peace and quiet of the place, caught up on reading but also did lots of sight seeing and walking, and probably best of all, cycled the camel Trail. C & P, Nottingham

Peace and tranquillity ..... take time at dusk behind Treneague House, look into the field and stay still. This is the territory of a tawny owl who visits and hunts here. He came on all four nights.

A lovely, peaceful cottage which is a great base from which to explore North Cornwall. The weather was glorious. The outside is a delight in the early morning / late evening. We did lots! The Coastal Path (Rock - Port Rein/Isaac) was strenuous but worth it for the views. AH, Nottinghamshire

A brilliant weeks stay at Owl House. Weather has been gorgeous. Great little place in the countryside listening to the Owls in the evening and hearing the neighbouring horse in the morning. Visited all local ports/villages and enjoyed many beach walks with the dog. Will definitely use again for a get away. Thanks for the lovely hamper too. JW, Wokingham

A gret few days in lovely peaceful Owl House. Comfortable walk into Wadebridge, nice town, good coffee and superb cream teas. Rick Steins 'Seafood Restaurant' worth a visit, superb evening and food. Ferry from Padstow to Rock, coastal walk to Polzrath with long sandy beach walks recommended. Weather sunny and warm, best this year. Chilly evenings compensated with the cosy wood burner. Our fourth, superb Rural Retreat break. Hope to make a second visit to Owl House soon. JQ, West Midlands

Beautiful little home from home with lots of thoughtful touches. Fresh coffee, bottle of wine, hot water bottle etc. We highly recommend Port Isaac and Port Quin (and back again), circular walk very challenging but beautiful coastal views (allow 3 hours). Follow up with a glass of wine in Owl House with the wood burning stove in use. Bliss! CK, Beaconsfield
1 March 2013
We have had a wonderful honeymoon here at Owl House. The cottage is everything we had hoped and more - a lovely secluded and cosy haven in which to stay. Cornwall despite 'variable' weather has been a fabulous place to spend our week. We visited Tintagel, Boscastle, Port Isaac and Falmouth amongst other places. Also travelled on the Bodmin Steam Railway, walked along deserted sandy beaches and wandered around Padstein which is a great place to potter around. All in all a fabulous week and hopefully we will return one day. JT, Andover

Another successful and lovely Rural Retreats location. Absolutely gorgeous
cottage and how wonderful to be woken up by the birds in the morning
instead of the darned alarm clock! Such a great restful time, long
walks, drives out to Padstow, more long walks on beach and
headland... superb! Feel refreshed and revitalised and ready to take
on the rat race once again! Thank you

We've so enjoyed our stay at Owl House. We love the pretty hedgerows along
the lanes and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. We heard the
owls from about 10 pm onwards and spotted a variety of birds in the
garden. Great tits, chaffinches, bullfinches, red legged partridges,
buzzards to name but a few - bird lovers paradise. Lovely
bike ride from Wadebridge to Bodmin. Great fish and chips from
Barneys, Wadebridge. Fantastic beach at Harlyn Bay. Cardinham Woods
near Bodmin perfect for dog walkers.
Cottage spotless on our arrival and hamper very welcome. Thank you. Going
home well rested. We will definitely be returning to this little
piece of heaven. Already jealous of next week's guests.

We've had an enjoyable week away and staying in Owl House has really made
our holiday! The first 3 days we didn't even use our car, with
walking and cycling in the local area to enjoy. The Eden Project was
certainly a highlight and now we want to come back for a second
visit! The comfort of the cottage has been the perfect escape from busy tourist
sights. The tranquillity, peaceful environment, along with the
well-equipped cottage has been a pretty impressive luxury! Thank you.

Our first "staycation" with our beautiful 16 week old baby. The
cottage was immaculate upon arrival and we enjoyed the remote
location and warm sunshine. The perfect cottage for a romantic, rural
retreat. Highly recommended! We visited Padstow, Trevone (great baby
friendly beach), Tintagel, Boscastle (NT tearoom is lovely for
whiling away the hours!) and further afield.Antony

We just loved the place from the moment we saw it. It's so warm and
welcoming - our first time at Owl House - probably not the last!
We travelled around each day but enjoyed coming back to the warmth of
the fire each evening. So peaceful and relaxing - we found soduko,
TV, music, walking...and more, just so chilled!
