Blencowe Hall details

A multi award-winning exceptional Grade I listed, fortified manor dating back to the 1400s that has undergone extensive renovation, bringing the two embattled Peele towers back into use for the first time in more than 300 years. Blencowe Hall sits on a bluff above the small river Petteril and is encompassed by its own gardens, grounds and fields incorporating access to the river. It has views to the nearby Lakeland fells and across the rolling Eden Valley fields.

Blencowe Hall won an English Heritage Construction Conservation Award which was accorded to the 20 most outstanding projects undertaken with their supervision in 2008, an Eden District Design Award, the NWDA Conservation Award and the RICS National Conservation Award. It is 5 Star Gold Award rated by Visit England.

Attractions and nearby amenities

  • You can enjoy brown trout fishing along the river, arrange for clay pigeon shooting within the grounds or take a cycle out for the day along the C2C which runs through Blencowe village.
  • There are some great walks and runs in the local area.
  • Located on the edge of the Lake District, about four miles from the Lake District National Park and seven miles from Ullswater.
  • Just over a mile walk from the village of Greystoke which is dominated by Greystoke Castle and its 3,000 acre estate, accessible for public walks. Greystoke has a heated village swimming pool, a local post office/shop, a cycle cafe and a 6th century coaching inn serving meals (The Boot and Shoe).
  • Close at hand is the Aira Force National Trust waterfall offering a scenic walk up to the peak of Gowbarrow Fell.
