What a view with the farm animals in the fields - we have had an enjoyable time here and will be sad to leave such a fabulous house. The weather this week has been cool and there has been little chance to enjoy the balcony until today - very relaxing but we wish we could have spent more time out there - next time maybe. Thanks for the little touches - hamper and roses!

Thanks for all the wonderful details: the hamper, the roses, the cake, the fruit. Excellent house and housekeeping, we're sad to leave. And the worst thing is saying goodbye to the view.

Fantastic view and a lovely house particularly the balcony! We had a lovely time here with many walks and climbs in good warm/hot weather. The hamper was much appreciated. Many thanks from us all.

It was our first stay here and what an amazing place. The lovely lawn allowed us to have great games of football. We took the steamer to Howtown and it is such an amazing place. We climbed Hollinfell and the views were spectacular. The many other walks we did were really nice too.The kitchen was really good as we mostly did home cooking. The views were just great and we had a lovely relaxing holiday. We played badminton at the Penrith Leisure Centre and it was really good too! We hope to come back in the future.

Had a lovely stay at this wonderful property. Particularly enjoyed sitting on the verandah especially early in the morning and late at night (under a blanket). Had great trips out. Best trip was walking the alpacas around the Lingholm Estate with Terry. Had some wonderful food here - best place by far for us was about 10 minutes down the road at Glenridding called Inn by the Lake - fantastic tasty food and very pleasant staff. Have enjoyed driving around the stunning scenery - going to have to get used to flat Norfolk again. Would love to come back.

Third stay at this wonderful house. Love the walks, and recommend Whinlatter and onto Lords Seat and Barf (amongst other great walks). Aga is so nice!

What an amazing house with amazing views from the balcony. Quality throughout. Everything you need is provided - free bottle of bubbly was a really nice touch on our arrival. Loved every minute of our stay. We will return for sure.

Another brilliant two weeks, first week weather indifferent but better second week, no matter what the weather the balcony is worth its weight in gold. The sound of animals in the dusk of evening are clearly heard on there. Not our first visit and definitely not our last. Thanks very much Richard and Susan for your home and hospitality.

We have had a super holiday at the wonderful Wreay Mansions - the view from the balcony is amazing. During our dry (but cold) August bank holiday week we have enjoyed : a cruise on the Ullswater steamer (the best way to see the lake by far), including a stop at Howtown to climb the first of three gentle Wainwrights (203 Hallin Fell) and local fells of Little Mell (Wainwright 173) and Great Mell (155) both offer fabulous views and are well worth the effort to climb.
Further afield Castlerigg Stone Circle in Keswick is in a stunning location and the pencil museum is informative.
Beatrix Potter's house is very evocative of her books and Stott Park Bobbin Mill is a fascinating survivor of Lakeland industry.
Our only failure has been to spot a red squirrel - we did go to some lovely destinations in our failed hunt, being, Whinlatter Forest, Dodd Woods, Allen Bank (NT Grassmere) and Aira Force.
The Angel Lane Chippy in Penrith was excellent

Thanks for a wonderful stay, we couldnt have asked for better accommodation! Our highlights were the long walks we took around Ullswater and to Dockray. The weather has been kind to us, we have really enjoyed our stay!

Another wonderful week, Blencathra a highlight.
I loved this house, the views from the balcony are brill. The weather hasn't been so great but fine. The best thing about this house is balcony but I also liked the master bedroom (Mum and Dad's room). The only thing that bothered me was the flies and the carpet because it is bumpy. Thanks for the chocolate cake and for the house: we had a lovely stay.

21 July 2017
the most comfortable and beautiful house in the most perfect and stunning location! The view from the balcony is superb. Delicious flapjacks too - thank you! We can recommend the Lakes Distillery in Brassenthwaite - a fascinating tour of the distillery with tastings of the whisky, gin and vodka. The bistro there is excellent, serving high quality reasonably priced meals. The other recommendation we'd make would be to visit the Lingholm Estate and Kitchen at Portinscale where we had a lovely walk with two very friendly alpacas! Search online for 'alpacaly ever after' to book the walks. Even took them paddling in Derwent Water. If camelides arent your thing, then just go for the cakes!

20 years since our last visit to the Lake District. Nice weather mostly this time only the last 3 days rainy. We are not serious walkers but had a nice walk from here along the footpaths to Aira Force and a bus ride back. Also took the steamer from Pooley Bridge, had a nice ride on the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway and an interesting drive over Wrynose and Hardknot passes to get there. A lovely house to stay in especially sitting out on the balcony of an evening listening to thrushes singing and watching the light changing over Ullswater.

Amazing. Just as amazing as last year. There seems to be a never-ending amount of activities to take part in. This year the weather was sometimes so sunny we got burnt and sometimes so cloudy we couldn't see the hills from our balcony. But either way it was a beautiful view. Thank you very much, we hope to see you soon!

A stunning property - so comfortable and well equipped - in a wonderful location with breath-taking views. Our thanks to Richard and Susan for all the goodies and extra touches that made this such a fine 'home from home'. We loved Aira Force, the Ullswater steamers, (incorporating walks from Pooley Bridge to Howtown or Howtown to Glenridding is a good idea) and exploring the wider area. Super weather for February - we honestly couldn't have wished for more. Thank you!

First time away from home over Christmas and we have had such a lovely week here. Managed a good walk everyday and even attempted Skiddaw but a little breezy at the top. Have eaten at the Inn on the Lake in Glenridding a couple of times and not been disappointed. Enjoyed being based on Ullswater, also popped to Hadrian's Wall today which is about 50 minutes away - worth a visit.

DH - Last time we came was October 2007 and I said I would come back and sure enough, 9 years later, here I am! Always love this place, feels so home-ly! Beautiful views and beautiful everything. So lovely and calm here! Will definitely be back again! Hopefully a bit soon though.
AH - I was 12 years old when I was here last time. Now I am 22 years old! This is the perfect getaway. It has been extremely stressful and busy in my life at the moment. Coming here has replenished my mind, making me feel calm and focused again. I would come here every year. The mountain fresh air cleans the soul! Looking forward to returning.
SH - Had such a fond memories of my girls here aged 7 and 12, I'm so glad we managed to come back, now aged 16 & 22! They still love it, as do we. Hope to come again, such a wonderful place to come and relax. Thank you again for such a nice place to visit.

Indeed it has all been said before - but this really is the most perfect place to stay! The views are amazing and the house is just idyllic! Even in October we had great weather so sitting out on the balcony enjoying the view was a great treat. Thank you very much and we will also be back!

It has all been said before and we agree - This place is perfect! The weather has been so king. Thanks for the 'heads up' on 1863 - super little Bistro in Pooley Bridge, we ate there twice. We will be back.

Not our first visit here and hopefully not our last. Beautiful apartment. Beautiful location. Fortunate with the rain Gods over the two weeks. Some lovely walks and the balcony has been utilised a great deal on an evening. Been warm to sit out till late, ideal place for our wedding anniversary. Many thanks to you both for lending us your home.

A perfect apartment to relax and enjoy all the spectacular views from the balcony. Good weather, lots of walks and plenty of stars in the sky on the first couple of nights. Especially enjoyed the morning sunshine first thing on the balcony. Apartment very comfy and clean - wish it were ours. Thank you so much for a fabulous week. Five very happy people going back to old cloths, porridge and to ask about your (great aunt). Thanks again.

Most impressed by how well equipped the house was and the welcoming pack was very generous. The balcony was a lovely place to sit out in all weather. The best restaurant in the area is 1863 in Pooley Bridge. The George and Dragon in Clifton was also very good and the Brackenrigg Inn has only it's proximity to recommend. Lunch at Sharrow Bay was also excellent.

We've had a really brilliant week here in this lovely property. Thanks to the owners for all the extra touches around that transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. One of the best Rural Retreats that we've stayed in - and there have been many of those! The weather has been very kind to us - despite the gloomy forecast before we arrived. We got out and about in the dry and sometimes warm sun - everyday. We had lots of fun and laughter as a family, a great holiday.

It was such a treat to arrive at this beautiful property after a mamouth 7.5 hour journey. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here, and were luck to have fine weather for the majority of the time. We aprticularly enjoyed the boat trip on Ullswater; Aira Force, Corn Bank, Larch Cottage Nurseries, Hallin Fell Walk; Catbells Walk and exploring the shops of Penrith. We hope to return in the not too distant future.

Absolutely stunning house with the most amazing views. We have had an amazing week. Great weather-even though we'd have welcomed rain to give us an excuse to just sit on the balcony and enjoy the view. Thank you for a lovely end to our holiday.

A really nice house, loved sitting on the balcony for breakfast/dinner. Had a lovely meal in the Quince in Cockermouth, now my favourite restaurant. Had a great day out visiting Westwater and the drive overto the Longdales was wonderful. Also enjoyed the shows at the theatre by the lake in Keswick. Booth's supermarket is excellent. We all had a lovely time getting together in such a lovely spot.

The photographs in the Rural Retreat brochure and web site do not do this house justice. It is an amazing property with breathtaking views across the lake. Each morning the day dawned sunny and it was a real pleasure just to be on the decking and relax. The weather overall was excellent apart from Sunday which rained most of the day. All good things must come to an end but we will be back!
