Great place, secluded but near to good walks and beaches. Only downside was No internet access during our stay and varied mobile signal.
The house was amazing and there was so much space and we especially enjoyed the garden. Unfortunately the house had no WiFi whilst we were there which was I suppose good and bad in equal measure. Nice to switch off from the outside world but with no signal either a bit isolating too at times. I suppose as a group our main issues were the lack of showers- for a house with 6 bedrooms you would expect there to be more than 2 showers (where you could stand up) and even then the water pressure for the showers was AWFUL! and only got worse (to a trickle) if the other shower was being used at the same time. When a large group of you want to get out and about this is far from ideal. As a group we have stayed in a number of big houses and this one was the best equipped except for no stair gates. It isn't necessarily clear from the description how the split levels work but for us with 6 children under 5 (5 of which on the move) the lack of a staircase on the stairs from the lounge was an issue as the room was unable to be enclosed in any way (no door). A pressure fit staircase could easily rectify this. Very enjoyable weekend though. Thank you.
A great house for 12 in a secluded location, looked after well by caretakers.
Chubbs Farm delivered everything we hoped for with space for us all to spread out if we wanted and also come together in the cosy kitchen and excellent dining room. The adventure started on the approach through the windy roads to Chubbs which was warmed up and inviting when we arrived (Feb half term) with a very generous welcome pack of bits and pieces. Shopping in Axminster is 5 minutes away with everything you need and the Jurassic Coast is just another 10 minutes or so. Wi-fi was pretty rubbish, but we could pick up 3G and sometimes 4G for simple stuff and frankly didn't miss it. In all other respects, Chubbs Farm ticked every box and is definitely a place we would return to.
A large, warm and spotlessly clean property in idyllic surroundings. It was perfect for our group of friends with everything we needed for cooking and dining, which we did a lot. And the lounge with its log burner was the perfect place to relax. I could go on, but I am sure you get my drift...it was a spot on holiday.. The service and support from Rural Retreat staff was excellent resolving a couple issues willing and efficiently and polite throughout. Great customer service.
Beautiful house and grounds. Lovely and secluded.
We loved the property which was well prepared and there was a super welcome hamper. The main difficulty was with the access track where the depth of the potholes and the raised centre of the lane really required 4 wheel drive. On a small point we also couldn’t find the remote control initially, eventually finding it down the back of a settee.
I am delighted that you loved Chubbs Farm and thank you for taking the trouble to leave your feedback. The access track concerned is unfortunately not part of the property. It is maintained by Devon Highways and the owner has already lodged a complaint.
The house was amazing!
A lovely, spacious and well equipped house in a great secluded location. Ideal for our family Christmas. We loved it.
Lovely farmhouse, great location, good communication from housekeeper, generous welcome hamper.
A return visit to Chubbs for our group of 8 and once again it did not disappoint. Fantastic location for some wonderful walks and very comfortable accommodation that works really well for all of us.
Fabulous October half term family holiday despite the weather! A wonderful welcome basket awaited us which was a real bonus. Chubbs farmhouse was welcoming, spacious , well equipped and plenty of room for all. Lots to do nearby especially fossil hunting on Charmouth and Lyme Regis beach. Even the dog enjoyed a romp on the sands.
Great customer service from this company, the accommodation was lovely but there was an issue with the oven. Rural Retreats dealt with our complaint quickly and to the best of their ability so that we did not feel our holiday was compromised and gave us a refund as a goodwill gesture. Despite our oven issue, I would use them again.
The house was beautiful for a big party. It was well equipped and clean. I know it is an old house but there were some things that can be fixed: the oven was only partially functioning because the time could not be set. Also the taps in the kitchen are very old and difficult to get the right temperature. The way from the main road to the house, specially from the entrance of the camping to the house showed very overgrown hedges. Our cars were scratched heavily. Only after three days a gardener cut the hedges.
Chubbs Farm is a beautiful property with absolutely everything you could possibly need for the perfect holiday. Locating the property was rather difficult, even using the directions provided, we still struggled. I would suggest putting in Chubbs Farm in youre SAT NAV and not the postcode as it takes you to another property up the road. Also the roads leading to the property are like dirt tracks, my car is not lowered but the bottom of it scrapped on the ground beneath... The George Inn, Axminster is perfect for family dining and the Ship Inn in Axemouth is definitely worth a visit. Crabbing @ Seaton Harbour is a must, as well as Harry Mae's Fishing Trips in Lyme Regis. I would highly recommend this property to any family, there is plenty of space for the kids to run around... :o)
Plenty of space, and in a quiet location.
A very good centre for a family holiday the facilities in the house were excellent
A lovely spacious house and grounds for a family get together. Perhaps too much space and hard surfaces for little ones but perfect for the older children. Granny wanted the rule no running in the house but parents didn't agree!Luckily only the odd bump and no split heads . Beaches and garden a big hit and the snug gave the children a cosy place to watch television . They didn't watch much TV as so much fun to be had.The stream to play pooh sticks and the large grassed area for football and trips to Lyme Regis,Beer on the way home Studland Bay ( Children's favourite sandy beach ) Grandparents enjoyed doing the 500 piece puzzle on the card table in the lounge with a glass of wine after the children went to bed. A great family holiday .
A great, interesting property, ideal for a family wedding in Axminster. Quality of the bed linen was superb. Thank you for ensuring our weekend was one to remember.
