What a lovely week! Weather so much better than the forecast every day. Twice I walked to Start Point while Steve read and napped in the peace. Lovely walk.......but don't bother with the last stretch to the lighthouse unless you know it is open. There really is no access to the rocks around it. The first day I was taken aback by a wave.....in my haste to get away, I sat in it!! Still it wasn't far to go to get warm and dry and now I have a new phone! Visited Kingsbridge, Totnes and Dartmouth - all lovely places. Yummy tea and cake too many times to remember where......

Our week in Downsteps was fabulous. The house itself is lovely - super comfy beds and great shower. We've been to Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Totnes and Dartmouth - all lovely seaside towns are apart from Totens which isn't near the sea. We have had a great lunch at The Start Bay Inn which turned into a boozy afternoon back at the house. All in all I'm sad to leave - especially to the relaxing sound of the sea each day.

A beautiful cottage full of charm and luxury. Welocming and homely with amazing views. Our own 'private' beach was enjoyed every day by the humans and canine! Waking up and going to sleep to the sounds of the sea was calming and relaxing. Who can beat opening the front door to the fresh sea air. Visits to Dartmouth and the wonderful lighthouse completed the weekend, particularly when returning to an open fire and a glass of wine. The trip down was equally as eventful - through a storm equipped with gale force winds and heavy rain! The twists and hairpin bends with tight and narrow lanes put our driving skills to the test! Needless to say throughout the weekend our car was tested. Despite this we are planning out next visit to Downsteps as soon as we can - we leave rested and revived. Thoroughly enjoyable.

A stunning location, fabulous house and a wonderful week. A mix of seaside walks and village visits has made this week one to remember. Some lovely meals out including The Cricket Inn at Beesands, The Winking Shrimp at Salcome and take away fish and chips from The Start Bay inn - a little extra holiday weight gained by all! We will visit this peaceful part of Devon - thank you Doorsteps for being the perfect spot for a relaxing and memory filled week.

Our first time in Downsteps - great house for children and the beach is super. Having breakfast in the garden is a treat. Great walk to Slapton and the Tower Inn. Great walk to the Cricketers Inn and back. Otherwise prepare yourself for the small Devon lanes, driving can be tough.

What a fantastic spot, great house, real old feel to it. We enjoyed two birthdays during the week and made the most of the outside space during what was a great week of warm and largly sunny weather. Sat around the table picking three massive cock crabs was great fun as were the steaks outside on the bbq. It was only yesterday that we got hit by a 5 minute shower complete with hail and this morning it decided to turn in wet and gray!! Swimming in the sea straight off the beach was a treat and the sighting of the local seal as it visited the bay was something special for all of us - keepa look out!! Thanks for a great time.

What a lovely location. Absolutely loved being so close to the beach. Memorable sunrise and moonlit seas from the bedroom window. We recommend the roast beef at The Church House Inn and the coffee at the seaside cafe in Torcross. Just like our previous visitors a lovely place to go exploring from and return to for relaxing afternoons. While there are plenty of good walks nearby our stretch of beach is jolly good with rockpools to explore and swimming in the sea. Thank you very much.

We had a wonderful stay at Downsteps. The house is absolutely beautiful and location really hard to beat. It also makes an excellent base for exploring and we found a lovely balance of exploring in the morning and relaxining at home in the afternoons. Only problem - I'm not sure our 1 year old daughter will sleep well again after the sounds of the waves willing her off to sleep all week. Many thanks.

We enjoyed Downsteps so much in May that we came back - it was just as lovely this time - thank you. Strongly recommend the food and welcome at The Cricket Inn, Beesands - one of the best meals we have had. So much to do on this part of beautiful Devon coast that I'm sure we'll be back again. Thank you.

This trip was to escape the horrible continetal heat of summer 2018 - it didn't really work. The typical British weather failed us. Besides we didn't realise that this house is the best spot ever for a beach holiday. We were not expecting Caribbian heat, superclear water, constantly blue skies. My husband has been to the UK before, out son and I haven't. Now we are spoiled forever. Not only by the fantastic weather and scenery but also by the most wonderful people. At this point we must admit: we are German.....Your culture of kindness is rather unusual to us. So how about forgetting Brexit and teaching us! Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful place.

What a truly wonderful time we have had in this beautfiul cottage. We did venture to Salcombe and Dartmouth but chose to spend most of our time in this idylic cove enjoying what was on our doorstep. The weather has been glorious so the sea offered welcome relief from the heat. Every meal was eaten outside and out two seafood 'feasts' were certainly the highlight. We have had great fun on kayaks, rubber rings, with snorkels saw some amazing fish, caught spider crabs and even a snake. Just magical, the perfect tonic - thank you so much.

We have very much enjoyed our time here - thank you for the throughful preparation of the house. We recommend the coastal walk southwards to the lighthouse and on to the beach just around the head. Also the walk in the other direction along the Ley to Strete. The Lime Coffee Shack at Strete Gate on the beach has excellent coffee and cake. This is a lovely place whatever the weather, to sit outside the door having breakfast and watch the sea. We are going to miss that - and the sun setting and the moon on the water. We do hope to come back.

Downsteps was everything we hoped it would be. The location is amazing - we enjoyed the sunrise every morning and a stroll on the deserted beach. We caught mackerel from the beach and saw a seal from our bedroom window. The walk over the coastal path to Beesands is lovely. Start Point lighthouse is worth a visit just for the views. Salcombe is very busy but nice. Hopefully we will all be back soon.

We have had a fantastic stay at Downsteps. The weather (except for Sunday) has been great - you cannot beat Britain in the sunshine. We can Recommend The Maltsters Arms at Tuckenhay, a really great location on Bow Creek and superb food. The walk along the coastal path from Start Point has great views and the paddle steamer along the River Dart - well worth it. Downsteps has been a great location and a lovely place to stay, we hope to be back soon.

We had a great time at Downsteps. Stand outs are: Walk from Start Point to Mattiscombe beach and coastal walk - long walk but worth it for the view. Cricket Inn for food. Start Bay Inn had great fish and chips. The Pigs Nose for the beef. Thank you.

Had a wonderful time, one of the best holiday rentals we've ever experienced. Our only regret is that we cannot stay longer. Loved the beautiful walks, breakfast at the cafe and fish and chips from the pub. We had a day of mackerel fishing and cooked our catch on the bbq - are already planning our return.

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a fabulous cottage. Will definitely be back given half the chance. Lovely takeaway from the Start Bay Inn, HUGE portion. Great rock pooling at South Milton. Gorgeous walk to the lighthouse and back. I don't think we have ever stayed in such a nice cottage/holiday home. Wish we could stay longer. Lovely memories of a lovely holiday.

What a lovely few days we have had here at Downsteps. Weather beautiful, didn't wear my coat once!
What a beautiful view to wake up to every morning! Beautiful cottage - lovely decor, much appreciated and enjoyed.
Surrounding area with so many beaches and coves - stunning. We will be back for sure!

Amazing views from this beautiful cottage, very peaceful and relaxing. Enjoyed our breakfast and supper out on the porch with the soothing sound of the sea.
Great coffee and cakes from Sea Spray Cafe, Torcross. Wonderful light lunches at Dartmouth Bayards Cove Inn (log-burners and cosy sofa's). For evening meals, The Cricket Inn, Beesand, you will need to book - gets very busy.
Great coastal walks right on your doorstep.
It doesn't get better than this! Thank you.

Our third visit to Downsteps, our favourite cottage.
We never get bored of the beautiful view and sounds of the waves.
Great walks, great pubs and great people.
No success fishing but we kept trying - maybe next time.
Thanks for sharing this house with us.

We spent our time relaxing and watching the fishing boats sail by. A long walk along the coast path through Beesands, Hallsands to the Start Point lighthouse was really enjoyable. The tour up to the top of the lighthouse to take in the views is worth while. (Cheesy chips from Beesands on the walk back kept us going!). We enjoyed a couple of shopping trips out to Salcombe and Totness where there are lots of little inividual and boutique style shops. Kingsbridge and Dartmouth are worth a visit.
Most of all we just enjoyed being by the sea. Kayaking, fishing, kite flying, swimming and walking. Wish we could stay ... Thank you.

I have been visiting Torcross for over 40 years and this has been the best holiday I have ever had. A red fisherman’s cottage looking out over the bay. PB, Sutton Coldfield
