East View Barn holiday home details

East View Barn is situated on the edge of Melbury Osmond, a quintessentially Dorset village which appears in Thomas Hardy’s novel “The Woodlanders”. Thomas Hardy’s mother lived in this beautiful Dorset village as a child, and the village appears in his novel as “Little Hintock”.

The barn has been carefully converted to create a comfortable holiday property, with three separate bedrooms and an open-plan living area boasting exposed beams and tasteful lighting. The property is situated next to a bridleway and a deer park, the perfect location for enjoying a country stroll before coming back to enjoy a cup of coffee or something stronger on the private terrace.

  • Walk through the nearby deer park to the historic village of Evershot with its pub, The Acorn Inn, serving delicious food and regional ales.
  • To the east is the popular seaside town of Weymouth, with its Georgian seafront, 17th century harbour, Sea Life Adventure Park and Tower, Punch and Judy shows and donkey rides.
  • Under an hour’s drive away is the bustling market town of Bridport and the colourful, pretty town of Lyme Regis, with gentle waters for bathing, ideal for children.
  • East View Barn puts you within easy reach of the Jurassic Coast, a stretch of rocks where there are fossils aplenty. You can see some of the fascinating finds from along the coast at the Lyme Regis Museum, and you can also sign up to take part in a Fossil Walk.
  • The locals say that Dorset is the wildlife capital of the UK, with 90% of the country’s species of mammals and 80% of bird and butterfly species found here. See what you can spot, with a stroll through the beautiful countryside. There are plenty of walks and footpaths to choose from – take a look at the advice on the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty website.
  • Dorchester is the county town of Dorset, situated on the banks of the River Frome. From Roman settlements to the trial of the Tolpuddle Martyrs, the town is steeped in history. The grand stately home Athelhampton House is also worth a visit.
