The Cow Byre holiday home details

Imagine relaxing in a home-from-home with a panoramic view of the green, rolling Dorset countryside, with nothing but the sheep and the birds between you and the unspoilt coastline beyond. The Cow Byre is a lovingly converted barn situated on Wears Farm, just inland from Dorset’s famous Jurassic Coast.

The accommodation is mainly arranged on the ground floor, with an open-plan kitchen and sitting room and a dining table for six guests. You’ll find little touches of luxury throughout, such as Egyptian cotton on the beds and an American-style fridge freezer dispensing ice and filtered water in the kitchen. On the mezzanine level is a king size bedroom with an en-suite, and there are two further bedrooms; a double and a twin plus a family bathroom. Guests can relax in front of the Smart television in the sitting room or take a drink out onto the private terrace with its teak table and chairs and just soak in those wonderful Dorset Ridgeway views.

Also available to book at this location are The Grain Store (sleeping 6) and The Stables (sleeping 8).

Attractions and nearby amenities

  • From The Cow Byre you’re only just a short distance from Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, famous for its fossils and England’s only World Heritage site.
  • The nearby village of Abbotsbury winds along a spectacular part of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. Abbotsbury is a beautiful village, well appointed with two pubs, local shops and tearooms. Popular attractions include the Swannery, the Children's Farm and the Subtropical Gardens.
  • The Lyme Regis Museum shows you some of the fossils that have been found here, and you can also arrange to go on a Fossil Walk to see if you can spot any yourself.
  • While you’re at Lyme Regis, you might want to visit the Aquarium, which is on the town’s famous harbour wall, known as The Cobb. It gives you an interactive insight into some of the amazing creatures found along the coastline here.
  • Chesil Beach is an 18-mile long stretch of shingle and pebbles that runs all the way from Portland and West Bay near Bridport. You can access the beach from Abbotsbury, just down the road from The Cow Byre.
  • Weymouth is a seaside town nestled in a sheltered bay. It’s a lovely place to come for a stroll, with pretty beach huts and majestic Georgian houses. The Jurassic Skyline is a revolving viewing tower that gives you some fantastic views of the coastline.
  • If you’re looking for the perfect social media photo, head to Durdle Door. This magnificent limestone arch juts out into the sea and is the perfect backdrop for a selfie or two. It was carved by the waves, as was Lulworth Cove, another iconic landmark nearby.
  • If you’re green-fingered, or you just like to stroll through a beautiful garden, Athelhampton House is a must-see. The gardens here are award-winning, and the topiary exhibits are breathtaking. The house itself is magnificent and dates back to the 15th century.
