Fantastic house and perfect for a 3 generation holiday. The swimming pool and tennis court had constant use and the kitchen was great. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the whole place felt lived in and not so immaculate you had to worry about children breaking things.
Lovely house. Couldn't be faulted. Pool table was a life saver given the appalling weather we had.
An excellent place for a large family to have an enjoyable holiday, with good facilities both inside and out.there is ample room to be together or on ones own. however certain items oh housekeeping needs to be addressed the disposal of rubbish is a major concern and some of the lighting needs attention.
I gave 4 stars because of the location and, as a group, we had a really lovely weekend catching up with each other. But although this was a good house, it could have been fabulous if there had been attention to detail. Entering the hall to see that cracked mirror made us think of The Lady of Shallott and a possible curse! Dead plants on the terrace made the place look neglected. The paving had not been weeded and generally, the terrace looked unloved with cheap plastic furniture mixed with lovely traditional wooden furniture. Cheap Lidl toiletries did not go down well with ladies like us who love luxury. Too many bits of furniture locked up and marked private. Could the owners find one place to store their possessions? We were only a party of nine but if two big families or a large party were staying, one dishwasher would not be adequate. one electric kettle was not adequate for nine of us. Not enough loo rolls! The path down to the beach is difficult and, although this was mentioned in the information pack, the owners may wish to protect themselves by ensuring that there are warning signs on the gate. The provisions hamper was very basic compared to other Rural Retreat hampers we have had. More local produce would make it special. We were asked to leave the house as we found it. We would have left it in an even better state, to our own high standards, had there been access to even a dustpan and brush and more than one J Cloth! However, cleaning utensils were not available and the vacuum cleaner was locked up. Washing up liquid was in small squeezable bottles which looked like shampoo to us. On the positive side, everyone loved the views and enjoyed the tennis court, pool and trampoline. And, best of all, red squirrels in the garden which was amazing. Please view these comments as a way to make a good house great.
FROM THE OWNER ~ 'Thank you for your feedback and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay at Oak Cliff. We are however very sorry to hear that a number of issues detracted from your experience and we will certainly be taking these on board to ensure fully successful future visits. In particular, we are sorry to hear that the outside space was looking neglected and thank you for bringing this to our attention. A new gardening service is now in place to ensure that the grounds receive the correct care and we regret that previous arrangements this year had not delivered as expected. The terraces had been sprayed for weeds but it does of course take time for this to take effect. There are two warning signs on the gate as to the uneven path to the beach and the steep drop but we will check that these are still prominently in view. We are very happy to share the chance to stay at this lovely house in its exceptional setting and we love to visit ourselves as a family. Rather than blocking off an entire room from our guests’ access, we limit storage of our own possessions to a small number of cupboards located in different places in the house. This means that full use of the property can be enjoyed by our guests and without any compromise on available storage space for their personal belongings. Cleaning materials including washing-up liquid, dustpan and brush and vacuum cleaner, and sufficient loo rolls for each bathroom, are routinely provided for our guests’ use and are stored in the utility room. Our housekeepers are fully available to address any difficulties so that problems can be resolved quickly and we encourage guests to make use of this service so that their visits are enjoyed to the maximum . We now provide 2 separate electric ovens with 2 hobs additional to the Aga as some guests prefer not to use an Aga, particularly in the summer. An electric kettle is available alongside the Aga kettle but we will happily add a second electric kettle for guests’ use and thank you for the suggestion. Space does not allow for a second dishwasher but fortunately this has not in fact proved to be a problem for our large group visits as there are three large belfast sinks for pans and larger items. Thank you for the lovely and positive feedback which you left in our guest book and for taking the time to write this review. We hope we will be able to welcome you back to Oak Cliff Place again soon.’
A very spacious house and garden for our three generation holiday. We were lucky enough to have wonderful weather at Easter enabling us to eat on the huge terrace overlooking the sea. The children loved the trampoline and we all enjoyed playing tennis but as it was so warm we wished the pool had been open.
This is our second visit to Oak Cliff Place and we enjoyed it as much as the first time. However some things seemed a little tired ie the dishwasher didn't wash very well. The Aga had been turned off as the owner had asked the housekeeper to do sorbet we needed it for cooking as the other oven was not adequate for such a large party.Abbie the housekeepers very helpful. There were several loose slabs on the terrace. The barbecue had been left in a poor state and had to be scrubbed before use
We had a wonderful time staying at Oak Hill Place with perfect weather. We loved the house and the youngsters spent many happy hours in the pool and playing tennis. My one disappointment was that there was nowhere to play rounders or football--- the particulars said there was a football pitch and several lawns but no space was large enough for these games. We had several BBQs outside but the kitchen didn't have enough ovens, hot plates or large pans to cook for 16 people. None of this spoilt our holiday at all !!! and we would certainly recommend it to our friends
It is very large house in a suburb position over looking the Solent. The grounds are large but grass is in need of cutting. The outside pool was excellent and many hours were spent by grandchildren but they needed wet suits to stay in for any length of time. The cover over the pool is ripped so is not 100% for keeping the water warm. . The recliners and covers were excellent for adults. You get lost in the house which is over 3 stories. The beds vary from 4ft 6inch to king size. It would be nice if they were all king size. The bathrooms and showers were excellent. The lounges were excellent and many hours were spent playing pool etc. The kitchen is very large with a table large enough for 16 people. This was excellent for our party. We had all our meals in the kitchen and that was difficult with the cooking facilities provided. There was an old ARGA with 2 rings on top and Three ovens. Non of us had used an Arga before so it was either too hot or not hot enough. There was also another oven/microwave with two rings on top. The microwave broke so life became difficult. The house needs a modern cooker with two ovens and a separate micro wave. The outside Patio looking over the Solent was very pleasant and we spent many hours enjoying the views helped with a glass of wine. We took use of the barbeque but this was not very clean as the brush to clean was worn out so new one is required. Abbie the new cleaner was excellent and had spent several days bringing the place up to standard. Ok it is an old house with very high ceilings so it was not 100% but quite acceptable. It is ideal for a large party and given good weather is very relaxing.
Maybe it was the incredible May Bank Holiday weather, but Oak Cliff Place was an idyllic venue for my husband's 60th Birthday with friends. The house is charming, welcoming, airy and spacious. The grounds and terrace are wonderful for evening drinks, early morning breakfasts, the pool a wonderful addition. It is so handily located for the ferry and the Isle of Wight is a wonderful, friendly place to visit. And the red squirrels... what more can one say.
Superb House, lots of room and activities for the children. We had a fabulous time, clean and tidy and a great place to stay when there is a group of you. (Three families) lovely welcoming hamper.x Would definately visit again if we come back to the island.
It may not have been Kensington Clean - but whose home is -, and there may have been a couple of plumbing problems, but our stay, with 16 of our family at Oak Cliff Place was excellent. As the literature says, the house is magnificent and the location, superb. Roisin, the housekeeper did us proud with the welcome hamper and the enormous kitchen served us well for family meals. Despite its grandeur, Oak Cliff Place was warm, welcoming, and cosy. We had a wonderful 4 days and left with very happy memories. Thank you.
Beautiful house. It is well appointed, very nicely decorated , stylish and comfortable. There is a lovely atmosphere about the house and we enjoyed our stay very much indeed. There are extensive grounds with a trampoline, tennis court and swimming pool and a little access path to the beach. Lots of equipment made available to us. Overall it is a beautiful and also highly practical house for a large family with plenty of space for everyone to do what they want. Good that there was a separate TV room where teenagers could take refuge. The housekeeper was very friendly, warm and helpful. We were greeted with a generous gift hamper which was a welcome and appreciated treat. Like others, we thought the house, whilst clean, could have been cleaner. 90% of it was perfect but a house that size probably needs a deep clean every so often. These latter comments both withstanding we would highly recommend the house and we would love to go back: indeed we were very grateful to the owners and the management for the opportunity to enjoy such a special House. Thank you.
Everything was a breeze from start to finish. When we found the house online the pictures were great and we liked the look and feel, but to be honest the pictures do not to the house enough justice. The Grand nature of the rooms and decor were amazing. We ALL had enough space to do whatever we needed to and relax. The weekend was to celebrate my husbands 40th Birthday with all the family, so we had a nice mixture of adults and Children, from Grand Parents through to Grand children. When we arrived with the great directions given (which were right on the money I have to say), we were greeted with a beautiful Hamper! The rooms were clean and tidy and the house was ready for us to enjoy the weekend. The main room for us was the kitchen which I have to say was awesome! My only criticism would be that the cupboards could have a helpful little label on the front as we spent ages looking through the cupboards looking for the items we needed to use, but apart from that it was perfect! We tried the book the house for the summer of 2018 after this wonderful weekend but not surprisingly it was booked. We will try for the following year as its a lovely place to stay. We took a trip to the large Tesco's which was an event in itself with a convoy of 4 cars! But again the directions were spot on and the drive around the country roads was great. Thank you to the gentleman who came to put the heating on for us, you saved my cold toes, but once it was on, it worked a treat and the house was cozy and warm!!! Amazing weekend and would book this house again in a heart beat!!
Good accommodation for large group. Lots of space, both inside the property and within the grounds, and privacy.
It's a super house in a good position but some things do need a bit of sorting out. Pool lovely and warm and was well used. Tennis court in good shape. Lawns, though, had not been cut for ages so grass very long and untidy. Trampoline wasn't very bouncy so hardly used.. Some confusion over waste and recycling - instructions in the house folder differed from those in a telephone call. Badly repaired bench on the patio needs replacing
The property was ideal for our holiday however it could have been cleaner and the beds and bedding could have been better. We felt the pool area and tennis court were fantastic but maybe the gate and fencing around the pool could be made more secure.
Thank you for taking the trouble to leave feedback. I am glad that you found Oak Cliff ideal and that you enjoyed the pool and tennis court. I have contacted the owner and she has checked the gate and fencing for me. I have also passed on your comments about the cleanliness and the beds and bedding.
Everyone I spoke to was very helpful and we enjoyed a lovely weekend.
Lovely house, the pictures do not do it justice. A superb weekend with plenty to do, enough space to spread out, and enough space to socialise together. .... Simply perfect, way to celebrate a birthday x
