Have been to Beech End seven times now, so I think that says it all. An excellent cottage, peaceful rural location. Very clean, tidy and well equipped
The cottage is gorgeous and homely, very cosy and the garden is pretty, sunny and secure, perfect for the children and the dog. Piano was a lovely surprise. The location was very quiet and rural. A 15 min drive into Holt for food and shops and 30 mins to the lovely beaches. Good cycling/walking for families at Holkham, about 30-40 mins drive away We had a wonderful few days and would definitely return. Thank you for a great break away from the city! A few small suggestions below would make it even more wonderful. Welcome hamper was very much appreciated but would have been lovely to have local produce rather than generic brands. Also, some sugar would have been good. Bathroom with roll top bath is lovely and the bath is very comfortable and water lovely and hot. But the window really needs a net curtain or obscured glass……not really practical to constantly roll down the blackout blinds during the day every time you/kids need the loo. The double bed in the second bedroom is a bit too small for two ‘almost’ teenagers (boy and girl) to share. It was just about ok, but perhaps it would be an idea to have twin beds in one of the rooms if wanting to attract families. It might be a good idea to turn on central heating a while before guests arrive. Despite the heating being on when we arrived, the first evening was freezing as the cottage hadn’t yet heated up. However, it was lovely and warm after that. Instructions for log burners would be helpful.
Thank you for your feedback for Beech End. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and as you so rightly say the property is glorious and sits in a very special cottage garden. All the living area soft furnishings and most of the curtains have been recently replaced. Just prior to your visit the carpets and blinds were renewed and the cottage decorated throughout. There is a blind in the main bathroom however the owner has deliberately not put frosted glass in as the sun blazes into the bathroom in the mornings and it is stunning. There is a shower room with toilet that does have frosted glass. The cottage warms up quickly and the heating can be put on constant when guests arrive if they wish. The woodburners can easily be lit and the instructions are in the folder. We find that Beech End attracts couples and families alike and, as we say on the webpage, there is a 5' king-size zip and link bed that can be made into twin 2'6 singles on request.
It was just the perfect retreat for relaxing. Brilliant. Thank you so much for making our weekend so special.
A beautifully maintained double cottage in a peaceful rural location (except for the brief tractor rush each morning and evening!). It was convenient for coastal areas and for inland attractions. Eating in the garden on a sunny morning or evening, with only birdsong in the background, was a real highlight.
This is the fourth time of staying at Beech End, a really comfortable cottage, everything you could wish for, great hamper. A lovely and relaxing holiday despite everything that's going on in the country. Thank goodness you were able to re-open, everything made safe
Great accommodation, the owner has thought of everything.
We couldn’t fault the property or the location. Everything was clean, tidy and there was a sufficiency of logs! The hamper contained some delicious treats and even the vase of fresh flowers made the cottage very welcoming. We were disappointed with the inflexibility of the organisation’s booking arrangements. Our friends who were supposed to be staying at Beech End with us were unable to do so because of a sudden very serious illness of an extremely close (only) relative. We offered to reorganise our dates at the same property - swap these 4 nights for 4 nights in March. We were however told that this would not be possible so consequently our friends have lost a much needed holiday.
Lovely fully equipped comfortable cottage. Decorated to a high standard with a lovely dog friendly garden in a quiet rural setting. The village pond and wildflower meadow just across the road and close to Holt and the North Norfolk beaches. Just perfectg
Spacious property - lovely logburner in sitting room and cosy sitting area - a piano downstairs! All the implements you could need in the kitchen, down to cling film washing up gloves. A wonderful welcome hamper, including wine, biscuits, tea, coffee, and lots of fresh fruit. Teddies in the children's bedroom was a great addition. Powerful shower and great bath than the children liked. Oh, and the garden was perfect for them to play in - even a friendly neighbour who let us borrow his crabbing equipment. The property feels like a home rather than a holiday let, which makes it really inviting. Highly recommend.
Beautiful cottage and immaculately clean. Couldn’t have been better equipped With everything included from every sort of cooking utensils to a comprehensive library and games cupboard. Lovely garden but unfortunately weather prevented us making maximum use of it!
This was our first holiday with Rural Retreats at Beech End cottage in Norfolk. My parents and I loved the cottage and it’s surroundings. Upon arrival there was a lovely welcome basket full of goodies which was great. The cottage itself was roomy, cosy and well equipped. The decor and furnishings suited the cottage and were very comfortable, it was like a home from home. It was also very peaceful, it was possible to sit in the well maintained garden (Thanks to Mike the landscape gardener) and listen to the sounds of nature around you. The neighbors and local people were also very friendly and helpful, I highly rated this holiday experience and would definitely recommend it!
This was our 4th visit to this cottage.Everything was of a very high standard as usual but on entering we noticed a strong smell of damp on the ground floor. This improved once we had opened a few windows, but had returned when we got back from a day out. There has obviously been a problem in the area where the piano is situated probably from plumbing from the bathrooms.Hopefully this has been attended to as otherwise this problem will continue and deteriorate.
Thank you for your feedback. I have heard from the owner of Beech End and there had been an earlier problem with a pipe bursting. This had been resolved and I am so sorry that there was a residual smell of mould.
Generally fabulous. Well equipped and comfortable and beautifully looked after. A few comments for improving. The high chair was awful - it tips the baby backwards so they struggle to sit up and it’s large and bulky and very hard to clean. We felt the hamper was poor - it would be so much nicer to have fewer better quality local items like local muesli, honey, fresh bread etc. The care taker was great.
We are delighted that you thought Beech End was fabulous and thank you for your review. The owner has let us know that, following your feedback, there is now a new high chair in the property.
A wonderful cottage in a great location, the welcome pack was just right, the cottage was clean and tidy with all you could ask for.what more can i say, many thanks to all involved.
Beautiful cottage , very well equipped and spotless. Lovely garden for our dogs. We really appreciated the hamper. Hopefully we will be returning felt very much at home.
We found the cottage to be extremely comfortable, warm and cosy and could not find any fault. Just one thing, a long mirror would make it just perfect.
Amazing property, especially for a dog. Superb.
Beech End was beautifully appointed, clean and comfortable with a perfect welcome pack and a pretty garden. We have stayed in many holiday cottages and this one was especially well maintained and homely. Ideal location for exploring that part of Norfolk too.
Beech End is a charming, comfortable and beautifully furnished cottage with a pretty garden in which to relax and snooze! All set in a quiet, rural village not far from Holt and beautiful sandy beaches such as Holkham and Wells next-the-Sea. Wonderful Housekeepers Steve & Carolyn and a great “Arrival Hamper” all contributed to our holiday. Thank you Rural Retreats
The location excellent, convenient for car parking, well presented and maintained cottage. We enjoyed ourselves and so did the dog. Constructive criticism as follows;- 1. A plastic washing up bowl would be useful in the kitchen 2. Kitchen off room for vacuum cleaner not accessible, (stiff catch?) 3. Airing cupboard was not accessible 4. Some items in "welcome hamper" not the quality/quantity usually expected from RR, eg cheese and wine. Hamper on the frugal side in comparison with previous experiences. 5. Attitude of housekeeper on departure was un-accommodating verging on rudeness. (As reported to *Name removed by Feefo* at RR and some response was expected but none received as yet)
Thank you for your feedback, we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at our lovely property Beech End. I am sorry that you weren't happy with the hamper provided. The owner had hoped that local asparagus and strawberries and cream would be a special addition and that you would enjoy the wine from a local wine merchant. I am sorry that there a little misunderstanding with the housekeeper.
