Attractions and nearby amenities

  • The Royal Family tends to spend Christmas at Sandringham, and you can come and see the very rooms that they use when they’re here. The estate is open to the public and you can explore the house as well as the magnificent gardens. The Exhibition and Transport Museum is also worth visiting, with its collection of Royal vehicles.
  • Brancaster Beach seems to stretch forever, with its four miles of golden sands. When the tide is out, you’ll be able to spot a shipwreck. The beach is dog friendly too, apart from a very small restriction in the summer months.
  • If you’d like to explore the rural beauty of Norfolk, Snettisham Park is a 329-acre working farm. You can go on a deer safari to spot the red deer herd and the little ones can get involved in bottle feeding the lambs or collecting the eggs.
  • Houghton Hall is a beautiful stately home that is steeped in history. Built for Great Britain’s first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole, this is one of the country’s most magnificent Palladian buildings. But there are up to date attractions here too. The hall often hosts artwork by contemporary artists.
  • If you’d like to see a play or some live entertainment while you’re staying at Keepers Cottage, the Corn Exchange at King’s Lynn is the place to go. From tribute bands to family-friendly plays and pantomimes, there’s always something different.
  • For horse lovers there’s one obvious place to visit in this neck of the woods. Newmarket is considered to be the birthplace of thoroughbred horse racing. Not only is the town home to two world-class race courses, over 3,500 racehorses are stabled here too. Come early in the morning and you’ll be able to see the horses being exercised – they have right of way over traffic.
