St Michael's Cottage (Norfolk) holiday home details

St Michael’s Cottage is a truly stunning 16th Century flint and brick built former merchant’s house set over four floors. Full of character it has a look-out tower at the top of the house on the fourth floor which affords fantastic views over East Fleet creek, the harbour, the marshes and sea beyond. With a telescope/binoculars supplied, this is a great space for daytime vistas to appreciate the superb coastal views and also is perfect for night-time stargazing.

Step inside this enchanting cottage and you will find two steep Norfolk winder staircases on either side of the house, a sitting room with wood burning stove, four sumptuous bedrooms plus a shower room and two bathrooms. On the third floor you will find a TV room. A convivial kitchen/dining space on the ground floor provides the opportunity to enjoy good food and conversation. The master bedroom is beautiful and built into the converted sail loft, which has a stunning heavily beamed ceiling and exposed brickwork walls which gives a true sense of the history of the house.

Beautifully refurbished, St Michael’s Cottage offers relaxed but stylish living and is a fantastic quirky holiday home full of character. Suitable for both families and friends it is ideal for a short break or longer stay. This beautiful cottage decorated in a neutral palette is set on a quiet no through road is located right in the heart of Wells-next-the-Sea, on one of the narrow lanes that leads down to the quay, and comes with off-street parking for one car and its own sunny south-facing courtyard garden, with a barbecue seating area.

Attractions and nearby amenities

  • Wells-next-the-Sea is a very sought-after and lively coastal town on the north Norfolk coast. With its fine, sandy beach, iconic beach huts, bordered by pine woodlands, it offers a playground for young and old alike.
  • Children will adore the small narrow-gauge railway that will takes you down to the beach if you don't fancy the walk. At the harbour you can see the small fishing fleet unload its daily catch and the quayside is also popular with children, gillying (or fishing) for crabs.
  • There is an eclectic variety of boutique shops, cafes, pubs and tea rooms to browse, with not a chain store in sight and The Buttlands is a lovely part of the town with a tree lined green, fine Georgian house and the fabulous Crown Hotel pub and restaurant.
  • Fishing trips, sailing, tennis, a swimming pool and fitness centre and the Wells to Walsingham Light Railway are all within easy reach and for something totally unique, why not go Alpaca Trekking across the marshes!
  • Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and with the North Norfolk Coast Path running directly through the town you may not wish to wander far but other delights near to hand include Holkham Hall, Burnham Market and its sister villages, Brancaster, Cley-next-the-Sea and Stiffkey to name just a few and of Sandringham, private residence of the Queen.
  • The nature reserves of Titchwell and Cley Marshes are a must to appreciate the beautiful birdlife and wildlife that makes this stunning coast so special.
