Valonia holiday home details

In association with Trinity House, Rural Retreats is pleased to present Valonia Cottage at Cromer Lighthouse. The original Cromer Lighthouse was built in 1680 but the present lighthouse, a white octagonal tower, was built in 1833 and converted to automatic operation in 1990.

Valonia Cottage is one of two semi-detached cottages at the lighthouse, which is a mile from the traditional North Norfolk town of Cromer. A 10 minute stroll along the coastal path or along the beach will take you into Cromer, where you can explore shops, pubs and sample local seafood - notably, the excellent Cromer crab sandwich. Cromer is a popular holiday destination for families, and has a long sandy beach with colourful beach huts. The pier has a theatre and cafe, and is home to the Cromer RNLI life boat - the station is open to the public. You can hire dipping nets and buckets on the pier - try to catch your own Cromer crab! There is an excellent sea-front cafe/restaurant at the lifeboat museum.

This is a beautifully situated cottage with outstanding views, our welcome hamper was lovely and the accommodation was everything we expected and more. We loved walking along the clifftop to Cromer and Overstrand. It feels off the beaten path but is within walking distance from all local amenities. We will definitely be back.

We have loved our stay at Valonia Cottage, it is warm, cosy, very clean and well equipped. We felt at home straight away and the hamper was very welcome. It's very exciting to be living in a lighthouse - the kids love it! The location is great with cliff top walks into Cromer for fish and chips. We enjoyed a day out at the North Norfolk Railway - Poppy Line - full size steam engines are amazing. Bewilderwood was a great day our for the kids to burn off energy. We will be back. Our sixth lighthouse holiday and the high standard of accommodation continues. We have had just about every weather condition possible but have still found lots to do in the area. We recommend the seal trips to Blakeney Point from Morston Quay and all enjoyed "Bewilderwood" at Wroxham. We would recommend The Red Lion in Cromer and the Gunton Arms near Thorpe Market. Thanks very much for the welcome hamper - very thoughtful. The S's, Reigate
