Cotton Cottage holiday home details

While away the morning sitting in the pretty window seat in the living room. Catch some sun in the garden with a book and a cup of coffee. Or take a dip in Combermere Mere before coming back to your cottage to prepare dinner in the bespoke oak kitchen. There are so many ways to enjoy a stay at Cotton Cottage.

You can’t miss the property as you approach the restored stables, as its unique turret sets it apart. With the red brick exterior walls, mullion windows and attractive sun trap of a garden, it looks every inch the classic English rural hideaway. Step inside and the Cheshire exterior gives way to Indian style decoration, with fresh, tasteful shades, paintings on the walls and antique furniture too.

Cotton Cottage comes with two first floor bedrooms. The double bedroom has its original fireplace as well as a superb four poster bed, while the twin bedroom has specially designed beds and original furniture. The property has everything you need for a relaxing break for four, and is also available to book with other properties on the estate for larger groups.

Attractions and nearby amenities

  • The Shropshire market town of Whitchurch is just a ten-minute drive away, with architecture dating from medieval, Tudor and Georgian times. The town hosts a food and drink festival every May. A short walk from the town centre takes you to the Llangollen Canal, which has a unique flight of seven locks.
  • Chester is a bustling town where you’ll find plenty of contemporary high street names and brands, but there’s also a wealth of history here. The Romans knew the city as Deva, and it’s still home to the largest Roman amphitheatre in Britain. The two-storey Rows are the place to come for shopping. And if you can pull yourself away from the retail therapy, Chester Zoo is a must too.
  • Life was hard in industrial Britain. Come and see for yourself just how much the workers had to toil at Quarry Bank Mill, where children had to work the looms. The gardens here are a riot of colour in the spring and summer.
  • If you’ve come away with the little ones, or you like a bit of adrenaline, the thrills and spills of Alton Towers are just a short drive away. It’s not all roller coasters and rides, there’s a water park too, as well as a dungeon visitor centre and stargazing pods.
  • The north-west is a trailblazer in the chemical industry, and Catalyst Science Discovery Centre enables you to explore the history behind the science. It’s an interactive and hands-on museum, where you get the chance to witness some experiments for yourself.
  • There’s plenty of wildlife on Combermere Estate itself, but if you’d like to see something a bit more exotic then head to Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom. From boa constrictors to a family of ring-tailed lemurs, there are lots of species to spot, and the little ones can lend a hand and feed the farm animals too.
