Briar Cottage holiday home details

Briar Cottage is a peaceful rural retreat set in the village of Friston and within easy walking distance of the popular local pub. The village beyond is surrounded by arable countryside, with Suffolk’s Heritage Coast just a short drive away, and there are excellent walks and bicycle rides right from the front door.

The semi-detached cottage maintains many period features, including exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove in the large and comfortably furnished sitting room. The double doors from the kitchen and dining room open straight out onto the rear garden, providing lots of natural light and creating a feeling of space. Upstairs you’ll find two spacious double bedrooms and a family bathroom.

With a Smart TV, Blu-Ray DVD player and a sound system, Briar Cottage also offers plenty of modern amenities to ensure you enjoy your time away. It’s the ideal place to come home to after a day spent exploring this beautiful part of the country.

Attractions and nearby amenities

  • There are lots of towns to visit and enjoy along the coast. Aldeburgh is probably best known for having been the home of the composer Benjamin Britten, and hosts a music festival every summer. The fish and chips here are a must, and don’t miss Maggi Hambling’s sculpture on the beach.
  • If you enjoy seafood, the historic village of Orford is also worth a visit. Here you’ll find local oysters and smokehouses. Pinney’s is renowned for selling mouth-wateringly fresh fish. The castle in the village dates back to the 12th century.
  • The estate of Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge, was home to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time. You can walk around the ancient burial mounds here and learn about the Anglo-Saxon king.
  • Suffolk’s coastline stretches for 40 miles, with lots of sandy cliffs, dunes, bays and creeks to explore. Southwold is one of the best-known beaches, with its multicoloured beach huts and pier.
  • You can take a boat trip along the creeks and flood waters of the Alde Estuary nearby, or hire your very own kayak or canoe.
  • If you enjoy stately homes you’ll be spoilt for choice. Helmingham Hall is perhaps most famous for its gardens. Every night the two drawbridges are raised at the Hall, leaving it an island within the moat.
  • Somerleyton Hall dates back to the Viking invasion of East Anglia, but the hall itself is largely Victorian. Finally, Kentwell is another moated hall that is full of surprises, including a castle made of yew trees, a galleon and even some real-life Tudors going about their day-to-day business.
