Attractions and nearby amenities

  • Cockerells Hall is situated just outside the villages of Buxhall and Rattlesden. Buxhall has a pub, The Buxhall Crown which is a short walk from the Hall via footpaths.
  • Rattlesden has a small community shop if you need any last-minute items and it is worth visiting the village to see the Grade I listed church of St Nicholas or to have a meal at The Brewers, which is highly rated.
  • Bury St Edmunds, described as a 'Jewel in the Crown of Suffolk', is 25-minute drive away and there are a host of different things to do. The Abbey Gardens are situated in 14 acres of grounds and host a number of events throughout the year along with spectacular plant displays including spring bulbs.
  • Bury St Edmunds boasts the only surviving Regency theatre, The Theatre Royal. In addition to the busy programme of shows you can also take a tour of the theatre to see behind the scenes.
  • If visiting in November why not attend Bury St Edmunds’ Christmas Fayre which is fast becoming one of the Christmas markets to visit in England.
  • The pretty villages of Long Melford and Lavenham are not far from Buxhall. The towns have a historical connection with the wool trade which provided the wealth for the merchants who lived there and is reflected in the architecture on display.
  • Melford Hall and Kentwell Hall on the outskirts of Long Melford provide interesting places to explore for all the family, with Kentwell Hall having a number of re-enactments from periods in Tudor History through to a Dickensian Christmas experience.
