Hope Cottage (West Sussex) holiday home details

Stroll down the path towards the double doors of Hope Cottage and you’ll probably be met by the scent of lavender and roses all around you. This charming cottage plunges you into the beauty of the Sussex Downs. Inside, the open plan living and dining area is a light and airy space with exposed oak beams. There are plenty of modern touches of luxury too, including Farrow and Ball paints on the walls, Smeg appliances in the kitchen and handmade linen on the beds.

To keep you snug and warm whatever the weather, there’s a wood burning stove in the living room with complimentary wood for your stay. With underfloor heating throughout as well, so you can kick your shoes off and feel the Indian limestone flooring beneath your feet.

Hope Cottage puts you in a walker’s paradise, with walks right from the cottage door. The Fountain pub just a 20-minute stroll away, over the river, and the village of Henfield is also accessible by foot, where you’ll be able to pick up food and provisions from the local shops. When you’ve stretched those legs, make your way back to your home-from-home and freshen up under the luxurious rain shower or simply relax on the comfortable sofa while you plan your next day’s adventures.

Attractions and nearby amenities

  • Brighton is a beautiful, bustling town that manages to exude a sense of history while being ultra-chic and contemporary too. From the iconic buildings of the Royal Pavilion to the seaside fun of the pier, there’s something for everyone. If you’re a shopaholic, a wander through the jewellery shops and bric-a-brac stores in the Lanes is a must.
  • While you’re in Brighton, it’s worth seeing if you can get tickets for the Theatre Royal. You might catch a famous name or two performing, as West End shows often come here before heading north to London.
  • The South Downs is one of the most distinctive landscapes in the UK, with astonishing views, pretty red-bricked villages and lots of trails and paths to explore. Take a stroll along part of the South Downs Way, or wander through the wooded valleys of the Weald.
  • With bluebells, magnolias and horticultural delights aplenty, the National Trust property Nymans makes for a magical day out, with a delightful garden set around a romantic house and ruins.
  • Did you know, Sussex is home to the deepest dry valley in the country? Known as Devil’s Dyke, this deep chalk chasm is said to be the place where the devil and his wife are buried. We don’t know about that, but we do know there are some magnificent walks with stunning views to enjoy here.
  • This is how castles are meant to look. Bodiam Castle is a classic medieval castle that stands proudly reflected in its own moat. You can bring a picnic, enjoy a free guided tour or even book a Museum at Night visit, which includes a 2-course meal.
