I have always wanted to stay in a lighthouse this place ticked all the boxes for me the location, not too far to travel too from where we live 2 hour drive, this place is relaxing and a place to totally rewind, forget WiFi, and phone signals and what your Facebook friends had for tea, totally at peace here, it was a credit to the owners who take great care in this property, very clean, beds where comfy clean airy fresh feel about the place, sit back chill enjoy the sea air and lots of wild life on your doorstep and plenty of walks, deer, hares, barn owls, kestrels within yards from the light house. I would definitely come back again but next time stay longer my wife and pet dog enjoyed it too. Very happy and chilled stay, ps sorry about the WiFi and phone signal issue with some people it's a must I'm not bothered in the slightest, you can get a signal up the lane if you must. Enjoy your stay if you book I know I will when I return again.
We had a fantastic stay at the cottage. Location is absolutely superb for peace and quiet, but equally near to Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay, both of which are our favourite places. We stayed 1st week of December and the cottage was lovely, cosy and warm. The welcome basket was a really nice touch and very much appreciated! All in all, this is a wonderful location and we will definitely be back.
all very clean and presentable, very polite dervice.
A lovely comfortable property in an amazing location. Highly recommended.
What a fabulous cottage, the setting is unique and ideal for those who want a bit of peace and quiet and a holiday with a difference. With some great walks from the door it was the perfect spot to get active and then relax watching the seals and dolphins in the evening. The kitchen was well equipped, the cottage clean and comfy. We even got to go up the lighthouse.. It would be even better if there was a bench at the top to sit on and a shoe rack for muddy boots.
Lovely cottage - great outside space, fabulous view, superb location absolutely on the Cleveland Way just south of Whitby. Easy access to the town and supermarkets - but far enough away to not be bothered by the crowds.
Vanguard has beautiful views and great walks along the cliffs, the rooms are spacious with comfortable beds however we did have some issues which is why I’ve knocked off one star. Firstly there’s no internet and the tv doesn’t have any channels either not that the tv bothered us, the cleanliness does need to be looked at as there was a towel on one of the beds that was dirty and not washed it smelled awful also the shower plug was very dirty as the water was not going down properly. It’s a shame that we had these issues as otherwise the property is a great place to stay to explore the North Yorkshire coast.
The location was fabulous. Great views of the sea - wanted a dramatic storm but we had glorious sunny weather which did mean we could sit outside and enjoy the views. There is a supermarket very close and very convenient to Whitby, and the rest of the Yorkshire coastline. We explored from saltburn down to Scarborough on one day. Loved Staithes, sandsend, Whitby and Robin hoods bay. The other day we explored Helmsley and a variety of small villages like hoveringham and castle Howard. Scenery is stunning. Vanguard has a very generous kitchen in terms of size and equipment. And a wonderful welcome basket with fresh milk, tea, coffee, cake and biscuits. We were not expecting this so we were thrilled! The shower had great water pressure and lots of hot water. Beds were comfortable. The sitting room accommodate all of us easily. Though there is no WiFi it is a 30 second walk outside to get it. So not really an issue and there is a landline phone that people can call u on if u needed them too.
Well maintained, pleasant interior, views spectacular!!
A pristine seaside cottage located in a working lighthouse. The cottage has amazing views and hiking. The host thoughtfully provided a lovely welcome basket, spotlessly clean interior, and very comfortable bedding. We loved our stay and can't wait to come again!
