Right at the bottom of Wales, at the most southerly point, lies Glamorgan. It comprises agricultural and industrial land, small villages, mountains, the coast and big cities. From steep cliffs to sandy shores, undulating hills and lowland riverbeds, it's one of the better known Welsh counties and contains some of the most familiar places.
Cardiff, Swansea and Merthyr Tidfil are spread almost equidistantly around the county, but you'll also probably recognise Port Talbot, Barry, Caerphilly, Rhondda, Bridgend and the Gower Peninsula, among the other regional highlights. Consequently, there's much to see and do - but if you're only here for a short while, then some of the things you might want to leave your luxury cottage for include a trip to Porthkerry County Park in Barry, which is great for a romantic picnic or a high-octane day out with the children. Then there's Penarth Pier or how about surfing at Dunraven Bay?
For walks, the Gower Peninsula is hard to beat, with its glorious coastline, sandy bays and caves. The Wales Coast Path enables visitors to follow the entire perimeter, should they wish. Many of the beaches have been awarded Blue Flags and so are perfect for bathing. There are also several castles to visit afterwards, perhaps with an ice cream in hand?
A day in Cardiff is a must, of course. The Welsh capital is a buzzing and exciting city, especially on a day when there's a rugby match at the Millennium Stadium. If rugby's not your thing, don't worry, you can choose from Cardiff indoor market, shopping in the Victorian arcades, watching a show at the Wales Millennium Centre, exploring St Fagans, the natural history museum, take a walk around Bute Park, step back in time at Cardiff Castle, time-travel at the Doctor Who Experience... that's barely even scratching the surface. There's so much to do, you can't miss Cardiff.
Don't just take our word for it, though - explore the area yourself. You'll find incredible landscape, uncover ancient secrets, enjoy beautiful scenery and realise just what a welcome breath of fresh air Glamorgan is. Go on, find out!
