St Corantyn Cottage holiday home details

Rural Retreats is delighted to offer you one of three three holiday properties on the magnificent Bonython Estate, 4.5 miles south of Helston on the northern part of the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall. Each holiday retreat is uniquely decorated to a very high standard and offers great comfort and the privacy and quietness of the estate, yet close to the amenities of the small towns and villages nearby.

The beautiful Bonython Estate Gardens, which guests are welcome to explore, comprises some 20 acres with a recently renovated walled garden and potager and a hidden valley with 3 small lakes. The gardens are rated as one of 'The Great Gardens of Cornwall' and given a star in the 'Good Garden Guide'. Bonython Estate is a traditional, mixed agricultural Cornish estate with ancient manor, farm and woodland stretching almost from one side of the Peninsula (the Helford River) to the other (the beach at Poldhu Cove) with both shores just over a mile away.

We offer other options at this location, which may be of interest if you need to accommodate a different sized group. The others are: Mews Cottage (CW047) sleeping six guests and Spring Water Barn (CW058) Sleeping two guests.

Attractions and nearby amenities

  • Across the Lizard Peninsular are many wonderful villages including Cadgwith, Mullion and Connor Downs, which offer a selection of places to eat, farm shops, and delicatessens. For a good lunch or afternoon tea followed by an ice cream stop, try Rosikilly’s in St. Keverne.
  • The closest towns are Porthleven and Helston which provide further places to shop and eat. Porthleven’s selection of restaurants is particularly good including Rick Stein’s Restaurant, The Square and Kota Kai with its harbour-side location offering lovely sea views.
  • With the majority of the neighbouring land being owned by the National Trust, The Lizard has many renowned beaches such as Poldhu Cove, a favourite amongst locals and visitors, surfers and wildlife watchers and Kynance Cove, with its contrasting wide sandy beach and the dark red and green serpentine rock producing breath-taking sights.
  • Kennack Sands is near the village of Kuggar comprising of two beaches with some grassy areas which are divided by a small hill called Carn Kennack and a rock feature called Caerverracks. There is a nature reserve to the east of the beach which can be reached along the footpath which runs along the back of the beach and over Carn Kennack.
  • The closest of the various beautiful gardens to enjoy is of course Bonython Estate Garden. Other gardens in driving distance include Trebah Garden and Glendurgan Garden at Mawnan Smith, Bosvigo Gardens and Trelissick Garden near Truro and St. Michael’s Mount by Marizion.
  • Two attractions which are well worth visiting are the Lizard Lighthouse at Lizard Point and the Goonhilly Earth Station at Goonhilly Downs where you can see the largest satellite dishes in the Northern Hemisphere.
