After spending 3 weeks at Teign Vale, and experiencing as much as we could of the property and local area, our comments reflect our opinions for both short and longer stays. The property overlooks the garden and a large meadow which is completely private and for the exclusive use of guests. The river runs the entire length of the meadow and is perfect for fishing, swimming, paddling and picnics - water shoes are beneficial. A particular highlight is watching the deer playing most evenings in the meadow and a wildlife telescope is supplied in the house. The house is built, decorated, furnished and cleaned to a very high standard. The bifold doors in every room are a stunning feature, and very welcome on hot days. Storage in each bedroom is limited to a chest of drawers and hanging rail but there is additional room under the beds which was sufficient for our 3 weeks. Each room is spacious with comfortable beds, good quality bed linen and towels. The large utility room with washer, separate dryer, extra fridge/freezer was used daily as a boot room after trips to the river and the outdoor sink is extremely useful for washing gear and the BBQ after use. The walk to Fingle Bridge Inn along the river is via an exceptionally well made and kept path which takes about an hour. The pub is picturesque and lovely for sitting outside but the beer and service were poor. Whilst this may have been due to how busy the pub was at the time of our visit it was disappointing. The TV is via satellite and has a perfect reception but the wifi is limited especially in the bedrooms. We took advantage of ordering venison from the owner and were delighted with large, very reasonably priced, steaks. The owners were on hand for any issues but were also respectful for our privacy - for example we ran out of gas during the stay which was replaced immediately but they called ahead to say they were attending the property. A wonderful 3 week holiday in an exceptional property which we plan to visit again.

An incredibly luxurious, comfortable, clean, well-equipped cottage; in an amazing setting; with a gorgeous, south facing patio. Ian and his family were the perfect hosts - just the right amount of help and local knowledge offered. Pat made discrete visits to tend the plants and generously lent us some of her own ramblers maps. The welcome hamper exceeded all expectations. A fantastic weeks holiday (3-10 June 2023)

This a well-appointed house in the most beautiful location looking on to the river Teign. The house is on one level with no interior steps making it wonderful as a place for anyone whose walking is not perfect. We absolutely loved the huge living room/kitchen where there's space for everyone and a well-equipped kitchen. The bathrooms and bedrooms were also a delight and each room has stunning views and a door opening towards the river. Despite the rather damp, cold weather outside the house was cosy and the hot water flowed when we needed reviving after a wet walk! There are glorious walks (whatever the weather) along the river and it's so close to Dartmoor that it would make a great location for exploring the whole area. We enjoyed the little pub at Fingle Bridge and the walk to Castle Drogo is magnificent. Two small suggestions: the showers have nothing (other than the floor) to put your shampoo etc on which we found a bit annoying and odd (it's otherwise a perfect house for anyone who is less than steady on their feet) and we'd have loved a few more lamps - the lighting was either very bright or a bit dim - especially at night in the living room. The games room was very much enjoyed in the evening. Thank you to Ian and Sarah who made our trip so simple and for leaving such thoughtful items in the welcome hamper and cupboards!

Lovely location and views,and the interior is very spacious with great bathrooms and bedding. Very disappointed/annoyed that they forgot to provide our hamper with the essentials, which meant a late afternoon drive to buy milk/butter/bread/eggs/tea/coffee (we had taken other food of course, but not these items) Also, insufficient kitchen cleaning items i.e. no washing-up liquid or sponge,3 dishwasher tablets(red lights on the machine and no salt or rinsaid provided) and just 1 washing machine capsule. More serving dishes rather than just glass pyrex and some napkins etc would be a plus, and more than one tea towel - rather mean, given the price. RR responded promptly but said they could do nothing as the owners were away. They later offered a voucher towards a future booking - that's ok, but no help to us on the day.

this is a wonderful place to stay and enjoy devon's many treasures... the elevated terrace has an uninterrupted view of the river below and is the perfect for nature watching... the building has a good balance of privacy and communal space, one level throughout makes it easy for people and we had all the amenities needed for our stay i loved spending time there and hope to return, thanks ian, sarah and pat
