What a gem. Arrived iin the pouring rain but The Timber Barn was so warm and welcoming. A converted barn on a country estate set in the wonderful Shropshire hillls. A welcome pack was much appreciated as was the underfloor heating, there was no need to use the log burner. Luxury accommodation more than compensated for the weather, a perfect place to relax and catch up with some reading. Lovely walks straight from the door around the estate and beyond. Close to The Lion at Leintwardine set by the river good for a drink or a meal. Only 10mins to Ludlow had a pleasant walk by the river below the castle followed by coffee and cake. Very smoothly organised through Rural Retreats would definitely return

The property is beautiful, spotlessly clean, very well equipped for our needs and of a high, hotel quality spec. It is in a beautiful, very rural position where we heard owls, saw bats and red kites from the garden and enjoyed fields of sheep and hundreds of pheasants. The local area has some great eateries and people were very friendly. We did have a few little issues but largely not worth mentioning, given that on balance, the property was so good. The things I definitely would warn people of are that 1) the description says the garden is fully enclosed. It is in as much as there is a fence, but not in a dog proof sense. Our dog is 15kg so medium sized and still easily managed with ease to walk under the fence and run off, causing a few very hairy moments which could have been much worse had sheep been in a neighbouring field as they were later. 2) the description also says the garden is secluded. Maybe this is just an expectations thing but for us, secluded would suggest a level of privacy. In reality, two other holiday rentals have windows overlooking the garden/house and one of their parking spots and entry to their property is just a few meters away from the fence line. Walkers and farm workers go past on a regular basis also. Had we known about these issues, we wouldn't have booked the property because these are normally deal breakers for us. The dog had to stay on lead in the garden which we always try to avoid. She normally stays close to us, even if the opportunity to run off comes up, but the temptations there were too great for her unfortunately and it could have ended badly. That said, the standard of accommodation itself was very good and as long as you book knowing these things, I would highly recommend it for all its other selling points.

I would almost give 5 stars and the less favourable comments are minor. Overall a very clean and comfortable property. We liked the location and it was very peaceful and relaxing. The location of the property is good for visiting small market towns, historic properties, gardens and of course for outdoor activities. The food hamper contained quality products but we left the sugar and tea as we don’t use these. Nice to have a bowl of fruit and the flowers. The kitchen was quite well equipped but a few bowls for mixing would have been nice. Something to play music on would have been a bonus. The duvet was too heavy for summer, a lighter weight would have been better. Not that we wanted to use it but the barbecue didn’t look clean. Finally, the nesting house Martins had left a large pile of droppings by the entrance and and this should have been cleaned up. Overall I would recommend this property.
