The house was a little difficult to find, but well worth the wrong turn I took at the end of the journey. A sign at or on the first gate would help with finding the property. The house itself is a converted barn and the owners have done an excellent job, it was spacious with 3 tri-fold doors forming the rear wall allowing you to walk out onto a massive patio with a barbecue and seating area. The house has been tastefully decorated with everything you would need for a week long stay and underfloor heating to keep it warm. They left a lovely welcome pack, and the house was clean and tidy, it’s in a lovely quiet area and we were able to sit outside hearing nothing but the sheep in the neighbouring field and watching the local wildlife. Unfortunately the internet was down for the whole village and BT didn’t fix it until the end of our stay, but we were able to get a phone signal on one of our phones, so didn’t cause a problem .

I was ready to write a rave review before we’d even opened the front door. The location is beautiful and not overlooked by anyone. The garden gets full sun until about 4 in the afternoon and the interior is gorgeous. We actually had days out planned but loved it so much we spent most days in the garden with the bifold doors thrown open. We are already planning a return trip next year. A fab week away.

The barn conversion and garden area is lovely and all done to a very nice standard. The setting is peaceful and tranquil, nice walks locally. A star deducted for a couple of minor things - having to open and close the stock gate at the top of the drive became a chore after the first couple of days, and our peace and quiet was disturbed by a couple of guys in a pick up truck parking close by in the field next door - they were shooting squirrels, I assume with the permission of the farmer. I get that it is a farm setting and you take that as it comes, but it felt a bit off - they could easily have parked further away out of sight.

We wanted a quiet get-away to meet family and Woodland Retreat fitted our requirements exactly. With a long drive down from the farm, surrounding woodland and fields full of sheep it is peaceful, relaxing, restorative and absolutely sumptuous. From its origins as a simple barn, the family have produced a luxurious but comfortable home. Thank you Mel for all the goodies you left and the friendly and informative text messages. The weather was warm and sunny so we were able to enjoy breakfast and dinner on the patio - in fact we loved the whole experience **
